Description
Base with NVMe cage
A chassis whose front bays are connected to PCIe lanes through a dedicated NVMe backplane and accept NVMe SSDs directly (Direct) or through an NVMe-capable RAID controller (the allowed controller type depends on the vendor and server model).
NVMe has the lowest latency and highest bandwidth of the storage interfaces and suits high-transaction databases and software-defined storage.
Removing the SAS/SATA layer and talking directly to the processor greatly increases IOPS and reduces latency.
