Intel Xeon E5 / E7 processor

The Intel Xeon E5 family (and E7 in four-socket servers) are the server processors of the older ProLiant generations and work with DDR3 or DDR4 memory.

These processors are used to upgrade or repair existing older-generation servers and to keep parts uniform with servers of the same generation.

They let you add a second processor or replace a faulty processor in an older server without replacing the whole platform.
