LRDIMM memory (Load-Reduced)

An LRDIMM is a memory module that buffers the data path as well as the command signals, so more ranks fit on a channel without increasing its electrical load.

To reach the highest memory capacity, for example for in-memory databases or dense virtualization, high-capacity LRDIMM modules are used.

The server's total memory capacity becomes much higher than with RDIMM.

  • The maximum memory speed is a function of the memory type, memory configuration, and processor model.
  • LRDIMM and RDIMM are distinct memory technologies and cannot be mixed within a server.
  • The 2666 MT/s DIMMs are only supported with the 1st generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (81xx,61xx and 51xx)
  • The 2933MT/s DIMMs are only supported with the 2nd generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (82xx,62xx and 52xx).
