Description

Smart Storage Battery

The Smart Storage Battery is a central backup energy source that, on power loss, powers the RAID controllers with cache (and, in some generations, NVDIMMs) so the cached data is saved to persistent memory.

A RAID controller only enables write-back caching when the backup source for the cached data is present and healthy.

It prevents loss or corruption of data being written during a sudden power loss.
